Backup Power: New Approaches via UPS, Energy Storage and EV Technologies

Diesel- and gas-fired generators and automatic switchgear have provided long-term backup power to critical facilities for decades, but a quantum leap forward is about to occur, thanks to the advent of large-scale utility, commercial and residential energy storage, plug-in electric vehicles and the application of standard UPS for peak-demand cost management. What do these breakthroughs have in common? Lithium-ion batteries lead the charge, but it goes beyond that. This talk will highlight vast improvements in the cost and performance of rectifier/chargers, inverters, high-speed power switching and control systems, and project where they’re heading. Will a single system soon replace conventional standby generators and UPS systems? We'll talk about it.
